A few of our friends in Hualien have been busy making some tea pets using the same Hualien clay that makes our beautiful tea pots. Each one is made by hand and then fired in the various kilns whenever there is free space. They aren't masterpieces, but they are kind of fun.

We have some cats and dogs for those that like a friend to share their tea with. There is a mix between wood and electric fired pets. The brownish red are electric fired while the gray ones were fired in a wood kiln.

They are also great for experiments with what Hualien clay does to the taste of your tea. Just plop them in you tea to see how the taste changes, if you are into that type of thing. :)

They are $10 each and a random new friend of your choice of animal will be sent to you after you order. If you would prefer a wood or electric fired pet (or one of each) just let us know after you order!

My cute little tea companion

I was lucky enough to still get one of these and since I have struggled to find a tea pet I wanted in about 10 years of being a tea enthusiast. I always knew I wanted something handmade and a little unusual, something a little imperfect yet perfect the way it is and made of clay so that it forms a lovely patina over the years.
The teapet was the reason I came across this page to begin with, as I saw the photo in an image search and thought it looked like a bunch of thirsty animals were offered a drink in a teacup. I loved the idea of not knowing exactly what I would get and what I ended up getting could not have beem more perfect! So incredibly fun and adorable - my little te companion for the years to come :)

SOOO FUN!!!

Your little CRITTERS are SO fun and such a delight that I have them ALL (10!) perched along the upper edge of a favorite bowl and they sit very near my black tea kettle so I can "watch them" while I fix tea times for Isabelle, my calico cat and ME!!! And sometimes we "chat" back and forth---the Critters--and I, about a "great many things"!!
