1980 Narcissus Wuyi Shui Xian
We have been buying so many of our aged oolong supplier's teas that they ran out of the aged Taiwanese Oolongs that we liked! We opened our potential buys to other teas and found this one, an expertly aged Shui Xian Oolong from Wuyi in China.
With little of the 'old bookcase' notes of many Taiwanese aged oolongs, this tea opens with a smooth fragrant wood note before falling into something so complex we can only describe it as the ghost of an ancient Spring. Light wisps of Narcissus florals, fascinatingly complex mouthfeel with a descending 'clear water' note in the mid-mouth, a firm 'aged tea' flavor profile backbone and an energetic, clear, relaxing and uplifting Qi make this tea a beautiful and memorable experience.
NOTE: With this price tag and flavor profile this is not a tea recommended for beginners. With an experienced brewing hand, and a palate that has been around the aged oolong block however, this tea is one of the best aged oolongs we have ever had. If you do decide to get this tea, please set aside a respectful amount of time to give it the attention it deserves. It can be something special.
**The authenticity of aged teas is always an issue as there are many bad actors in the space. This tea was purchased from the same place as many of our aged teas, a famous and very respectable company that specializes in Puer and other aged Oolongs. Given the the source and our own experiences in tasting over 100 aged Oolongs over the years, this tea is as authentic as it gets.
