1995 Muzha Tieguanyin
Found during our annual visit to the Muzha Tea Gardens in the Lunar New Year Holidays, this is about as close to a loamy Taiwanese Shou we have ever tried! If you have ever wanted to taste the rich, dark earth of the Muzha region in the hills above Taipei, this is your lucky day!
Placed for 30 years in the backroom of the same multi generational organic garden in the heart of the Muzha foothills as our Red Honey Multivar Muzha, this storage could be considered rather 'intense'. The large temperature differential between seasons and the high humidity of the Muzha region have brought out a more earthy and rich flavor than some of the more 'dry' stored teas we have gotten from this area in the past. This tea is a warm, earthy rich blast of terroir, mixed with some leather and a hint of red fruit.
We recommend a good rinse when starting to brew this 30 year old tea, and try to see if you get an interesting body feel. To us, it is warming and relaxing with a bit of a 'tea drunk' kick. Not as much as the 1970s oolong, but still fun to experience.
