 The 'Grass Medicine' Taster Set

At Mountain Stream Teas we are always looking for ways to increase out knowledge and expand what we offer to the world. We have wanted for a while to expand our herbal tea section and we where lucky enough to visit a garden in Taoyuan that has been growing different herbal teas for years. This set of herbal teas is a mix of flavors and traditions and we are curious to see what everyone thinks of them.

All three of these plants have been used in traditional medicine for hundreds of years but we make NO medical claims about their effects even though there have been many peer reviewed studies about them. If you are interested in more details you can see them here: Perilla, Heart Leaf, Chinese Mesona. Interestingly, Chinese Mesona is the base ingredient for the 'grass jelly' drinks often found in East Asia.

The taste points for these tisanes are:

  1. Perilla: Menthol, spicy Asian Basil, grass
  2. Heart Leaf: Slight orange citrus, yellow florals, fresh leaf litter
  3. Chinese Mesona: Dark vegetal, strong Chinese medicine herbals

All of these plants are caffeine free and great for evenings when for many true tea might interrupt sleep. We hope that you enjoy these herbs as we would love to hear if you would like more of these types of experiments.

**Like all our teas, there are no added flavors, colors or chemicals in this tea. All flavors are completely natural and additive-free!**

Worthy of its price

Wonderfully sweet with a gentle cooling aftertaste. While it's pricier than the stuff at general Asian marts, I find that those have a chance of being unpleasantly grassy and not as smooth as this one.

Relaxing and refreshing

This gives herbal and floral notes with a hint of sweetness and mentol. Has a lot more complexity than I expected and lasts many steeps. A nice variation from chamomile for a calming nighttime brew.

Beautiful

Smooth, complex flavor that is floral, minty and has just a hit of spice in the aftertaste. Definitely worth the price and little bit really does go a long way.

quiet and soothing

Good to drink in the morning, a fine replacement for a traditional cup of tea with caffeine.

The little flowers are very pretty. Have also been mixing it a bit with regular tea.

Lovely Taste, Great Effect

This tea is incredibly good. I have, up to this point, drank chamomile teas in the evenings when I needed a relaxing moment. I find this tea is pretty similar in taste to good, fresh chamomile. It has a bright, almost minty quality to it, but it retains a lot of that warm, buttery distinct plant taste. With a cup or two in the evenings, I find it soothes my nerves just enough to help wind down. I'm glad I bought so much of this tea, as I'm sure it'll last a while, and I'm happy it will!
