Competition Grade Baozhong
Creamy smooth vegetal, thick mouthfeel and soft florals with a hint of fruit in the aftertaste make this tea a classic example of the Baozhong genre. Found by accident on a recent trip to the Pinglin area, we happened to catch a tea master couple in their 70s as they were just finishing this gorgeous tea. A 'competition grade' Baozhong, it is made from the first and best leaves of the season and processed with extra care with the goal of creating a 'winning' tea. We were only able to get a couple Kgs of this batch as the rest will be placed in the coming Baozhong Competition. If it wins, the price will go way up, so we are happy to be able to share it before that happens!
**What makes this tea competition grade? First, it is picked earlier in the season from pristine gardens growing the traditional Qinxin Oolong cultivar. The tea is then processed with extra care to create the classic smooth creamy vegetal florals tasting notes of the genre. When finished, the stems of all the leaves are painstakingly separated by hand before being placed in the competition for judging.
