Wild Left Shanlinxi Oolong

Shanlinxi is one of the hardest places in Taiwan for an agrochemical-free tea lover to find something to drink. This Wild Left Oolong is a rare treat! Left along most of year, this isolated garden is only picked twice a year. Once in the Spring and once in the Winter with limited yield each season. The rest of the year the tea tress are left to grow wild. A rich, strong and subtle brew is the result of these growing conditions.

At the recent 2022 Nantou Tea Show we were blown away by this tea. The thick mouthfeel and 'oceanic' nature of teas from this terroir are on full display with this one. Fresh, upfront smooth vegetal moves to a thick and wide expansive and luxurious mouthfeel before ending with that gorgeous mix of floral and sweet sour fruit that Shanlinxi teas are so famous for. 

We were able to get a limited amount of the spring pick and we are in the process of sampling the recent winter pick to hopefully get some more. The taste is full of the muddy thick flavors that make Shanlinxi so famous but with an extra kick in the aftertaste that only truly wild grown teas have. Take some time to enjoy this one.

Recommend Brewing Style:

Gong Fu Style: 3-5g per 100ml, ~100C water, 30, 45, 60 then add 5-10 seconds steeps in gaiwan. Lasts 4-5+ steeps.

Western Style: 3g per 100ml, ~100c water for 3 minutes. Lasts 2-3 steeps.
