On our recent sourcing trip to Dong Ding we found plenty of great teas, including this rare gem. While sitting in the 98 year old Su family household with multiple generations of Tea Masters and sampling teas we asked a cheeky question.
'You guys got any unroasted teas?"
'What, you mean Moacha?! (unfinished tea)"
'Um, ya, curious what it tastes like...'
And so they brought us out some of this tea. And we convinced them to sell us some! This is the 'finished/unfinished' oolong that would get roasted to become the traditional finished 'Dong Ding Oolong'. Creamy, buttery and with undeniable wild ginger flower florals, this tea is delicious, educational and rare.
If you have ever wanted to try a Dong Ding Oolong before the roast then this tea is fun one to try. It is also just a great oolong on its own! We only have about 800g of this tea left(because they wouldn't sell us more:) so don't delay. It will be gone pretty soon!
