Taiwanese Old Growth White Tea Cake

Limited Release

Made from the same material as our Taiwanese Sheng, this white tea is something special. Picked in November from wild 70-200 year old Camellia Formosensis tea trees grown naturally in the forests of south western Taiwan, it is a one-of-a-kind tea. Young sheng mixed with creamy sweet Earl Gray is the best way to describe the taste of this rare and unique tea.

Our first production run of purple bud heavy material sold out very quickly and we just recently pressed some more tea from the same area. Although very similar to the first batch, the green bud material contains less purple buds so is stronger, more floral, and has a bit more of a young sheng puer kick to it. This is the last of this special white tea cake for 2020. We don't expect to release any more of this style of tea until early 2021!

And be fair warned. This is the last time these tea cakes will be priced at this level. The cost of protecting these rare and remote tea trees from theft has begun to raise the price of the raw source leaf material. We are happy to pay a higher price to do our part to save these rare and beautiful trees. We expect the costs of each cake to raise around 10-30% next year.

**These teas were picked in November, 2019 at around the same time that tea was stolen from another garden in a different area with similar trees. The stolen leaves were going to be made into a sheng that has been delayed until spring. The material for this cake is from a different area and much more suited to making a white tea.

Great Tea

I really enjoy this tea. A very concentrated white tea with hints of flavors I've only found in teas 10x the cost. Ended up buying a whole tong it was so exceptional. Can't wait to see how it ages.

Taiwanese Mountain White

I really enjoyed this! Wasn’t sure what to expect but I’m glad I got two cakes. It reminds me of the best qualities of a Yunnan black (malty, lightly sweet) more than a white, and it’s lovely.
