A rumor that turned into reality, this tea is about as one-of-a-kind as they come. It has one of those 'too crazy to be true but verified with pictures' stories that have become all-too-common on our sourcing adventures. This tea is made from fresh tea material picked from 100-300 year-old wild cultivar tea trees growing in the mountains of South-Western Taiwan and then processed mirroring the Pu'er tea processing style of Yunnan, China. The finished product is something that is new but familiar, and undeniably Taiwanese. The name Taiwanese Sheng fits it perfectly!

The taste profile is sweet, candied plums with a fresh feel similar to what you would get from a greenish high-mountain oolong. The leaves are heavy and dense but the tea liquor is light and soft. There is a touch of young sheng pu'er bitterness if pushed too hard, but with 10-15 second infusions the tea unfolds in soft, sweet waves. Not quite a Puer or an oolong, but something unique and special. We are immensely excited to see this tea back in the shop after a two year wait!

The 2021 pressing is slightly more authentically produced as a Puer-Style tea than former years, which gives it more of a kick. Tea produced in this way are designed to be aged and we will be keeping a few of these teas aside as an aged Taiwanese Sheng is sure to be an extraordinarily rare and special treat.

Wow!

Gave 10g a try on the basis of description and reviews. Crisp, pure taste with hints of Tiawanese High Mountain Oolong. Gonna order two cakes: one to enjoy now, one to age.

Deliciously clean

This Sheng Puerh is a great pleasure to drink. It is clearly young but this goes well with the crisp and pure taste. It is a true hybrid: the flavor is more Sheng Puerh while the perfume reminds very much of a Taiwanese High Mountain Oolong. Can’t wait to see how it will age (although my cake will certainly not last that long).

looks good, tastes good and feels good too

A combination of honey sweetness and candied plums pairs perfectly with deep mossy notes. For me, I experience a brightness reminiscent of sun-dried cherry tomatoes. Most importantly the tea looks good, tastes good and feels good too!

Brewed 6g in 120ml yixing. As expected, this tea delivers a completely new experience. After drink sheng after sheng it's nice to find something that stands out beyond the nerdy, intricate notes of most pu erh. This tea is full of sweet and savoury flavours that are not only super accessible but maintain a complex aura. Its truly unique and absolutely worth it!

Phenomenal!

This is a tea I’m really close to declaring as one of my favorites. It’s very unique, has a sweet and spicy jam like aroma and flavor. It can go strong for many infusions, a very lovely experience! This is probably the first sheng cake I want to buy a tong of!
