On a recent visit to a partner farm in Mingjian, a chat about charcoal roasting lead to the discovery of this delightful tea. The family had recently tried out their hand at charcoal roasting a Jinxuan (Milk Oolong) cultivar oolong that had been sitting on the shelf for a while. 9 Years to be exact. The result was a wonderful mix of roasted cream and sweet caramel that we bought as soon as we tasted it!
Only roasted over coals once at a lower temperature than our Dong Ding or Muzha offerings, this charcoal roasted tea might be better described as 'toasted'. The fruit flavors and creamy mouthfeel of the Aged Jinxuan is perfectly accented by a touch of roast. Perfect for those that like roasted teas but may not enjoy the strong flavors of the more heavily oxidized and roasted Dong Ding series of teas. It is also a great softly warming tea for cold days.
