Monk's Honey Black

This classic, sweet and dark bug-bitten tea is the most traditional black tea we have on the site. Grow by monks and nuns in the mountains of Pinglin just outside of Taipei, it is also one of the cleanest. The material used to make this tea is some of the best we have ever seen.

For good or bad, depending on your own personal tastes, oolong processing methods have crept into Taiwanese black tea processing more and more. This has brought more fruit flavors and general sweetness into many of these teas.

Traditionally processed black teas such as this one have become rare. Dark, strong, malty, sweet -- this tea is throwback to the older ways of making Taiwanese black teas. Rich, cooling and honey sweet, this delicate tea deserves slightly cooler temperatures and careful brewing. Those who take the time will be rewarded with a taste that is slowly being phased out of most modern black teas in Taiwan.

This tea is great for cold brew as well!

Recommend Brewing Style:

Gong Fu Style: 3-5g per 100ml, ~95C water(205f), 30-40-60 second steeps. Lasts 3+ steeps.

Western Style: 3-5 per 100ml. 2-3 minutes steeps.

Grandpa Style: 3-5g per mug. Keep adding water as you drink to taste. Very Suited for this tea!

I have purchased this but have not tasted this tea as I bought as a gift for someone else. I must say I am very impressed with the speed at which I received the package and the amazing customer service! Five stars all the way!!

Great Tea

I had the opportunity to drink this Monk's Honey Black.
The tea tastes sweet, malty and not a trace of bitterness.
It has a beautiful golden color. Since I first made this tea, I only used a few tea leaves to test how much the tea will develop in my pot.
I can confirm that the teas from Taiwan are a bit milder and softer in the mouth than other black teas from other countries. A tea for lovers! :)
